Chapter 01 / Why We Exist

From Banking Floors to Factory Floors

Doug built a career in private banking — successful, comfortable, and increasingly hollow. The real cost of unchecked economic growth wasn't in the spreadsheets; it was in the water tables, the soil, the air. He became a member of the Natural Resources Defense Council. He started hyper-miling his hybrid. And eventually, he started 4-rth. The goal was never to build a clothing brand. It was to prove that an industry responsible for more pollution than aviation and shipping combined could be done differently. More than a decade later, that mission hasn't changed.

Chapter 02 / How We Make It

Born in Los Angeles. Built on the Block.

main-image

Every 4-rth garment is cut, sewn, and finished within a few miles of downtown Los Angeles — in the heart of the historic fashion district. Our custom fabric is made to order by a local supplier in Southeast LA, then delivered to our workshop where a small, skilled team builds each piece by hand. No overseas factories. No third-world labor arbitrage. No shortcuts.

Chapter 04 / Why It Matters

2nd

Most polluting industry on earth — that's textiles.

Your Clothes Have a Cost.

Ours Are Different.

The textile industry is the second most polluting on the planet — behind oil. Conventional cotton alone uses more pesticides per acre than any other crop, with runoff that enters the shared water supply. One standard cotton t-shirt requires two pounds of toxic pesticides applied to the ground. 4-rth was built on the belief that consumption isn't the problem — the way we produce is. When you choose ProModal and Tencel over conventional cotton, you're choosing fabrics with a fraction of the chemical load, sustainably farmed trees, and manufacturing processes designed to leave as little behind as possible. That choice adds up.
